Texas had 25,145,561 residents in 2010 (US Census 2010), of which 45.3% white (excluding Hispanics and Latinos), 11.8% African-American, 3.8% Asian, 0.7% Indian, 0.1% Hawaiian or coming from other Pacific islands. 2.7% belonged to two or more groups. 37.6% of the total population were Hispanics.

In 2010, the minorities made up 50.2% of the population. Texas is therefore considered the majority-minority state. For mid-2017, the population is estimated at 28,304,596 residents. The population of Texas is among the fastest growing in the United States.
