Ukraine is a country located in Eastern Europe and covers an area of 603,700 square kilometers. It is bordered by Poland and Slovakia to the west, Hungary, Romania and Moldova to the southwest, Russia to the east and northeast, and Belarus to the northwest. The highest point in Ukraine is Hoverla Mountain at 2,061 meters above sea level. The climate in Ukraine is temperate continental with temperatures ranging from -10°C (14°F) to 20°C (68°F). The spring months tend to be the warmest with temperatures rising around 10°C (50°F). Summer months can be quite hot with temperatures reaching up 30-35°C (86-95°F) while winters are cold and snowy with temperatures dropping below 0°C (32°F). The terrain in Ukraine consists mostly of plateaus and plains which make up over 60% of its landmass. The most prominent mountain range is the Carpathian Mountains which run along the border with Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. Other important geographic features include the Black Sea which forms part of Ukraine’s southern border; Dnipro River which runs across central Ukraine; Azov Sea which lies between eastern Ukraine and Russia; Yalta Mountains; Danube Delta Nature Reserve; Crimean Peninsula; Synevyr National Nature Park; Askania Nova Biosphere Reserve; Carpathian Biosphere Reserve; Polesia State Radiation Ecological Reserve; and Kherson Steppes National Nature Park. Overall, Ukraine is a beautiful country with lush vegetation, stunning mountainscapes and numerous bodies of water that provide a great opportunity for relaxation or adventure during its temperate climate year-round.
