Uganda is a landlocked country located in East Africa and covers an area of 241,038 square kilometers. It is bordered by Kenya to the east, South Sudan to the north, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the west, and Tanzania to the south. The highest point in Uganda is Mt. Stanley at 5,109 meters above sea level. The climate in Uganda is tropical with temperatures ranging from 19°C (66°F) to 29°C (84°F). There are two main seasons: wet season from March to May; and dry season from June to February. During these months, there can be significant humidity levels due to their proximity to the equator. Additionally, they can be subject to severe storms during this time of year so precautions must be taken when traveling or living there. The terrain in Uganda consists mostly of hills and mountains with some areas of flat land in the southwest corner near Lake Albert. The most prominent mountain range is the Rwenzori Mountains which run along the border with Congo and contain several peaks that exceed 4,500 meters above sea level including Margherita Peak which is considered one of Africa’s Seven Summits at 5,109 meters high. Other important geographic features include Lake Victoria which forms part of Uganda’s southern border; Lake Kyoga; and Murchison Falls National Park which contains some of East Africa’s most spectacular scenery including powerful waterfalls and abundant wildlife such as elephants, lions, antelopes, buffaloes, hippos and over 500 species of birds. Overall, Uganda is a beautiful country with lush vegetation and stunning landscapes that provide a great opportunity for relaxation or adventure during its warm tropical climate year-round.
