Turkmenistan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, with a total area of 488,100 square kilometers. The highest point in the country is Mount Ayrybaba at 3,139 meters above sea level. This mountain peak provides spectacular views of the surrounding landscape and is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers alike. The country also contains several large rivers such as the Amu Darya which flows through Eastern Turkmenistan and empties into the Aral Sea. There are also several large lakes such as Lake Sarykamysh near Ashgabat which is one of Turkmenistan’s largest lakes. The climate in Turkmenistan varies depending on location but generally consists of warm temperatures year-round with monsoons during certain times of year. The country experiences two seasons: dry season from April to October; and wet season from November to March. During these months temperatures can range from -2°C (28°F) in January to 42°C (108°F) in August with humidity levels over 80%. The terrain in Turkmenistan consists mostly of plains and desert, although there are some areas with more fertile lands along the Amu Darya riverbanks and valleys near major rivers.
