Togo is located in West Africa, bordered by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east and Burkina Faso to the north. The country has a total land area of 56,785 square kilometers and a coastline of 56 km along the Gulf of Guinea. Togo is divided into five distinct regions: the central plateau region which is home to most of the population; the northern savanna region; the semi-arid western region; and the southern forested region. The highest point in Togo is Mont Agou at 986 meters above sea level. This mountain peak provides spectacular views of the surrounding landscape and is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers alike. The country also contains several large rivers such as the Mono River which flows through Lomé and empties into Lake Togo in southeastern Togo. There are also several large lakes such as Lake Togo near Lomé which is one of West Africa’s largest lakes. The climate in Togo varies depending on location but generally consists of hot temperatures year-round with monsoons during certain times of year. The country experiences two seasons: dry season from November to April; and rainy season from May to October.
