Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, is a small landlocked country located in Southern Africa, bordered by South Africa and Mozambique. It has a total land area of 17,364 square kilometers and a population of over 1.1 million people. The capital city of Eswatini is Lobamba which is located in the western part of the country close to the border with South Africa. The physical geography of Eswatini is characterized by its subtropical climate with warm summers and mild winters. The landscape consists mainly of mountains throughout its interior while its coastline consists mainly of wetlands along its eastern border with Mozambique. Its highest peak is Emlembe which stands at 1,862 meters above sea level while its lowest point is at 28 meters above sea level along the Great Usutu River. The coastline of Eswatini consists mainly of wetlands along its eastern shoreline while its western shoreline consists mainly of forests and grasslands. There are several large rivers which run through the country including Mbuluzi River near Mbabane, Komati River near Manzini, and Lusutfu River near Piggs Peak while Lake Ngwempisi to the south is one of its largest lakes at over 35 square kilometers in size. Additionally, Eswatini’s landscape features several mountains such as Sheba’s Breasts Mountain as well as numerous waterfalls throughout the country.
