Portugal is a country located in Southwestern Europe, bordered by Spain, the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. It is known for its diverse geography which consists of many different regions including the Iberian Peninsula, the Azores Islands and the Madeira Islands. The Iberian Peninsula is located in the southwestern part of Portugal and consists mostly of rolling hills with some areas having higher elevations up to 1,000 meters above sea level. This area has a temperate climate with temperatures ranging from 0-30 degrees Celsius throughout the year. It also contains several rivers such as the Tagus River which forms part of its western border with Spain. The Azores Islands are located in the northern part of Portugal and consist mostly of volcanic islands with some areas having higher elevations up to 2,000 meters above sea level. This area has a subtropical climate with temperatures ranging from 5-30 degrees Celsius throughout the year. It also contains several natural forests which are home to many species of birds and other wildlife. The Madeira Islands are located in the eastern part of Portugal and consist mostly of mountainous islands with some areas having higher elevations up to 1,800 meters above sea level. This area has a subtropical climate with temperatures ranging from 10-25 degrees Celsius throughout the year. It also contains several large lagoons such as Lagos which is home to numerous species of fish and other aquatic life.
