Paraguay is a landlocked country located in the heart of South America, bordered by Argentina, Bolivia and Brazil. It is known for its diverse geography which consists of several distinct regions including the Gran Chaco, Oriental Plains and Occidental Plains. The Gran Chaco region makes up most of Paraguay’s landmass and is characterized by flat plains covered with scrubby vegetation and large areas of dry grasslands. This area is home to a wide variety of wildlife including armadillos, anteaters, jaguars and many species of birds. The Oriental Plains are located in the eastern part of Paraguay and consist mostly of flat terrain with some areas having slight hills or valleys. This region has a subtropical climate with temperatures ranging from 19-27 degrees Celsius throughout the year. It also contains some marshy wetlands that are home to a variety of aquatic life such as caimans, turtles and fish. The Occidental Plains are located in the western part of Paraguay and consist mostly of rolling hills with some areas having higher elevations up to 600 meters above sea level. This area has a mild climate with temperatures ranging from 17-25 degrees Celsius throughout the year. It also contains some marshy wetlands that are home to a variety of aquatic life such as caimans, turtles and fish. Paraguay has many rivers running through it including the Parana River which forms part of its western border with Argentina as well as many smaller rivers such as Pilcomayo river which runs through much of central Paraguay. The country also contains several large lakes such as Lake Ypacaraí which is known for its beautiful sunsets over the lake’s calm waters.
