Panama is located in Central America, bordered by Costa Rica and Colombia. The country is home to a wide variety of terrain, ranging from tropical rainforests and mountain ranges to arid deserts and pristine beaches. Panama’s geography is divided into four distinct regions: the Caribbean Coast, the Pacific Coast, the Central Mountain Range, and the Interior Highlands. The Caribbean Coast of Panama consists of low-lying coastal plains that are bordered by mangrove swamps and large coral reefs. This area is home to many small fishing villages as well as some of Panama’s most beautiful beaches. The Pacific Coast is characterized by steep cliffs, rocky shores, and small islands. This region is popular among surfers due to its consistent waves. The Central Mountain Range runs through the center of Panama, with peaks reaching up to 11000 feet above sea level. This range contains much of Panama’s wildlife including jaguars and tapirs as well as a variety of bird species such as toucans and macaws. The Interior Highlands are composed mostly of rolling hills covered in dense forests that provide habitats for various mammals such as sloths and monkeys. Panama has a tropical climate with temperatures ranging from 75-90 degrees Fahrenheit year round with plenty of rainfall throughout the year. Due to its varied terrain, Panama offers a wide range of activities for travelers including hiking, rafting, snorkeling, surfing, bird watching, fishing, exploring ancient ruins sites such as Fort San Lorenzo or visiting one of its many national parks like La Amistad International Park or Soberania National Park.
