Oman is a country located in Western Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Oman, and the Persian Gulf. The country is largely mountainous and consists of two distinct regions: the Hajar Mountains in the north, and a vast desert plain in the south. The Hajar Mountains are a range of rugged peaks rising up to 3,000 meters above sea level, offering spectacular views of surrounding valleys. These mountains contain some of Oman’s most important cities including Muscat and Nizwa. In contrast to this mountainous terrain lies the vast desert plain that covers much of southern Oman. This region is mostly flat with sandy dunes that can reach heights of up to 200 meters. It is here where visitors will find some of Oman’s most iconic attractions such as Wahiba Sands and Wadi Bani Khalid. In addition to its impressive landscapes, Oman also boasts an abundance of wildlife including Arabian leopards, foxes, hyenas, gazelles, ibexes, wildcats and many species of birds.
