Nigeria is a country located in West Africa and covers an area of approximately 923,768 square kilometers. It has an estimated population of over 200 million people and is the most populous country in Africa. The terrain in Nigeria is mostly low-lying with coastal plains and rolling hills towards the south. The highest point in the country is Chappal Waddi which stands at 2,419 meters above sea level while Lake Chad is the largest lake in Nigeria with an area of around 25,000 square kilometers. The climate in Nigeria is tropical with temperatures ranging from 22°C to 34°C throughout the year. Agriculture plays an important role in Nigeria’s economy with crops such as rice, yams, cassava, maize and sorghum being grown for both domestic consumption and export. Livestock farming also plays a part with cattle, sheep, goats and camels being reared for their meat, milk and hides. Tourism is another major industry for Nigeria due to its diverse landscapes which include mangrove swamps along the coast; tropical rainforests; savannahs; mountains such as Obudu Plateau which stands at 1,600 meters above sea level; rivers such as River Niger which offers visitors a chance to go on boat rides or explore local villages; beaches such as Calabar Beach where visitors can relax or take part in water activities; national parks such as Yankari National Park where they can go game viewing or bird watching; historic sites such as Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove which has ancient shrines dedicated to the goddess Osun; and cities like Lagos where they can explore markets or visit museums.
