The Netherlands is a small country located in northwestern Europe, bordered by Germany to the east and Belgium to the south. It covers an area of approximately 41,543 square kilometers and has a population of around 17 million people. The terrain is mostly flat with some low hills near the German border and most of the land lies below sea level which is protected by a series of dikes and windmills. The climate in the Netherlands is temperate with mild winters and cool summers. The majority of the Netherlands is covered in farmland which produces a variety of crops including wheat, barley, potatoes, sugar beets and vegetables. Dairy farming is also important for the economy as it produces milk, cheese and butter for export. Fishing is another significant industry in the Netherlands with cod, herring and mackerel being some of its most important catches. Tourism is also an important part of the Dutch economy with visitors coming from around the world to explore its stunning canals, picturesque villages and vibrant cities such as Amsterdam. Amsterdam is home to many world-famous attractions such as Anne Frank House, Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum which attract millions of visitors each year.
