Montenegro is a Mediterranean country located in the Balkans, bordered by Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo and Albania. It has an area of 13,812 square kilometers making it the 133rd largest country in the world. Montenegro’s terrain is mostly mountainous with numerous peaks over 2000 meters above sea level. The highest point in Montenegro is Bobotov Kuk at 2522 meters above sea level. The climate in Montenegro can be described as Mediterranean with average temperatures ranging from 4°C in January to 23°C in July. Rainfall typically occurs between October and April but can vary significantly from year to year. Snowfall commonly occurs during the winter months between December and March, especially at higher elevations. The main river flowing through Montenegro is the Bojana which forms part of its eastern border with Albania. There are also several smaller rivers such as Morača, Zeta, Tara and Lim that flow through parts of Montenegro’s interior regions.
