Mali is a landlocked country located in West Africa and is bordered by Algeria, Niger, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Senegal and Mauritania. The capital city is Bamako and the official language is French. Mali’s geography consists of three distinct regions; the southern savanna region known as the Sahel, the central plateau region which includes the Niger River Basin and the northern desert region known as Adrar des Ifoghas. The country features some stunning landscapes including the Bandiagara Cliffs which make for an impressive sight with their sandstone formations stretching for hundreds of miles. Additionally, there are several rivers such as the Niger River which runs through Mali and empties into the Atlantic Ocean at Nigeria. The country also features several lakes such as Lake Debo which makes for a great spot for fishing or boating activities. Lastly, there are numerous mountains such as Mount Hombori which offer some breathtaking views and activities such as rock climbing or hiking amongst its rolling hills.
