Northern Macedonia is a country located in the Balkans and covers an area of approximately 25,713 square kilometers. It has an estimated population of around 2 million people and borders Albania, Kosovo, Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece. The terrain in Northern Macedonia is mostly mountainous with plains located along the Vardar River. The highest point in the country is Mount Korab which stands at 2,764 meters above sea level while Lake Ohrid is the largest lake in Northern Macedonia with an area of around 358 square kilometers. The climate in Northern Macedonia is temperate with temperatures ranging from -5°C to 30°C throughout the year. Agriculture plays an important role in Northern Macedonia’s economy with crops such as wheat, corn, potatoes and vegetables being grown for both domestic consumption and export. Livestock farming also plays a part with cattle, sheep, pigs and goats being reared for their meat and hides. Tourism is another major industry for Northern Macedonia due to its diverse landscapes which include mountains such as Mount Jakupica which offers stunning views over the region; rivers such as Vardar River which offers visitors a chance to go on boat rides or explore local villages; beaches such as Ohrid Beach where visitors can relax or take part in water activities; national parks such as Mavrovo National Park where they can go game viewing or bird watching; historic sites such as Stobi Archaeological Site which has ancient ruins dating back to 4th century BC; and cities like Skopje where they can explore markets or visit museums.
