Luxembourg is a small country located in Western Europe, bordered by Belgium, France and Germany. It has an area of 2,586 km2 and a population of 615,000 people. The geography of Luxembourg is mostly hilly with some mountains in the north. The highest peak is Kneiff at 560 m above sea level. The country also contains numerous rivers and streams, including the Moselle which forms its eastern border with Germany. The climate in Luxembourg is temperate with mild summers and cold winters. Average temperatures range from 0°C in January to 19°C in August while average rainfall ranges from 800-1,200mm per year with most precipitation occurring between April-September. The natural resources of Luxembourg include minerals such as iron ore, copper and zinc as well as significant deposits of oil and gas. In addition to this, there are also significant agricultural resources such as arable land (25% of total land area) which are used for growing grains, vegetables, fruits etc., as well as livestock rearing which is an important source of income for many rural communities.
