Lithuania is a small country located in Northern Europe, bordered by Latvia and Belarus. It has an area of 65,300 km2 and a population of 2.9 million people. The geography of Lithuania is mostly flat with some hills and low mountains. The highest peak is Aukštojas Hill at 294 m above sea level. The country also contains numerous rivers and lakes, including the Nemunas which is the longest river in the country. The climate in Lithuania is temperate with mild summers and cold winters. Average temperatures range from -6°C in January to 18°C in August while average rainfall ranges from 700-1,000mm per year with most precipitation occurring between May-August. The natural resources of Lithuania include minerals such as iron ore, copper and zinc as well as significant deposits of oil and gas. In addition to this, there are also significant agricultural resources such as arable land (42% of total land area) which are used for growing grains, vegetables, fruits etc., as well as livestock rearing which is an important source of income for many rural communities.
