Liechtenstein is a small country located in Central Europe, bordered by Austria and Switzerland. It has an area of 160 km2 and a population of 38,000 people. The geography of Liechtenstein is mostly mountainous with some valleys and plateaus. The highest peak is Grauspitz at 2,599 m above sea level. The country also contains numerous rivers and streams, including the Rhine which forms its western border with Switzerland. The climate in Liechtenstein is temperate with mild summers and cold winters. Average temperatures range from -1°C in January to 22°C in August while average rainfall ranges from 1,300-2,200mm per year with most precipitation occurring between April-October. The natural resources of Liechtenstein include minerals such as lead, zinc and gold as well as significant deposits of oil and gas. In addition to this, there are also significant agricultural resources such as arable land (19% of total land area) which are used for growing grains, vegetables, fruits etc., as well as livestock rearing which is an important source of income for many rural communities.
