Liberia is a small country located in West Africa, bordered by Guinea, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coast. It has an area of 111,369 km2 and a population of 4.7 million people. The geography of Liberia is mostly flat with low rolling hills and coastal plains. The highest peak is Mount Wuteve at 1,440 m above sea level. The country also contains numerous rivers and lakes, including the Mano River which is the longest river in the country. The climate in Liberia is tropical with hot summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from 23°C in January to 28°C in August while average rainfall ranges from 1,400-1,700mm per year with most precipitation occurring between May-October. The natural resources of Liberia include minerals such as gold, iron ore and diamond as well as significant deposits of oil and gas. In addition to this, there are also significant agricultural resources such as arable land (17% of total land area) which are used for growing grains, vegetables, fruits etc., as well as livestock rearing which is an important source of income for many rural communities.
