Kuwait is a small country located in the Middle East, bordering Iraq and Saudi Arabia. It has an area of 17,820 km2 and a population of 4.2 million people. The geography of Kuwait is primarily flat desert with some low hills located in the north and east parts of the country. The most prominent feature is the Kuwait Bay which forms its western border with Iraq and Saudi Arabia. The coastline is mostly sandy with some rocky outcrops near Kuwait City. The climate in Kuwait is arid with hot summers and mild winters. Average temperatures range from 8°C in January to 43°C in July/August while average rainfall ranges from 100-200mm per year with most precipitation occurring between November-April. The natural resources of Kuwait include oil and gas deposits which are by far its most important economic resource accounting for around 75% of government revenues. In addition to this, there are also significant agricultural resources such as arable land (1% of total land area) which are used for growing grains, vegetables, fruits etc., as well as livestock rearing which is an important source of income for many rural communities.
