Kenya is a country located in East Africa, bordered by Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan and the Indian Ocean. It covers an area of 580,367 square kilometers and has a population of around 51 million people. The geography of Kenya is quite diverse with a range of landscapes from the coastal lowlands to the highlands in the central part of the country. The coastal region has sandy beaches along with swamps and mangrove forests while further inland there are mountains and plateaus that reach heights up to 5199 meters above sea level. The highest point in Kenya is Mount Kenya which stands at 5199 meters above sea level while its lowest point is Lake Victoria at 1130 meters above sea level. The country also features numerous rivers including the Tana River which is the longest river in Kenya at 1250 kilometers long. Kenya has a tropical climate with hot and humid weather throughout most of the year with temperatures ranging from 25-30 degrees Celsius during the day and 15-20 degrees Celsius at night. Rainfall typically occurs during April-May and October-November although it can vary depending on location. The natural resources of Kenya include oil reserves located off its coast as well as gold, copper, limestone and other minerals found in various parts of the country.
