Guyana is a country located on the northern coast of South America and is bordered by Brazil to the south, Venezuela to the west, and Suriname to the east. It has a total land area of 214,969 square kilometers and its highest point is Mount Roraima at 2810 meters above sea level. The majority of Guyana’s population lives in cities such as Georgetown and Linden. The climate in Guyana is mostly tropical with temperatures ranging from 24°C during winter months (Dec-Feb) to around 32°C during summer months (Apr-Jun). Rainfall varies across different parts with wetter areas receiving up to 4000mm annually while drier areas receive around 1500mm each year. Guyana is known for its lush rainforest which covers approximately two thirds of its total land area. This includes numerous rivers and waterfalls which are home to a wide variety of wildlife including jaguars, capybaras and giant anteaters. There are also over 700 species of birds found in Guyana including some rare species such as the black-faced ibis and red siskin.
