Guatemala is a country located in Central America. It has a total land area of 108,890 square kilometers and is bordered by Mexico to the north and west, Belize to the northeast, Honduras to the east, El Salvador to the southeast, and the Pacific Ocean to the south. The terrain of Guatemala is mostly mountainous with its highest point being Volcán Tajumulco at 4,220 meters above sea level. The majority of Guatemala’s population lives in cities such as Guatemala City, Quetzaltenango and Antigua. The climate in Guatemala is mostly tropical with temperatures ranging from 15°C during winter months (Dec-Feb) to around 21°C during summer months (Apr-Jun). Rainfall varies across different parts with wetter areas receiving up to 5000mm annually while drier areas receive around 1000mm each year. Guatemala is known for its lush jungles which covers approximately two thirds of its total land area. This includes numerous rivers and waterfalls which are home to a wide variety of wildlife including jaguars, ocelots and toucans. There are also over 700 species of birds found in Guatemala including some rare species such as the resplendent quetzal and horned guan.
