Ethiopia is a large landlocked country located in Eastern Africa, bordered by Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia and Kenya. It has a total land area of 1,104,300 square kilometers and a population of over 109 million people. The capital city of Ethiopia is Addis Ababa which is located in the central highlands region of the country. The physical geography of Ethiopia is characterized by its tropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. The landscape consists mainly of highlands throughout its interior while its coastline consists mainly of wetlands along its eastern border with Somalia and Djibouti. Its highest peak is Ras Dashen which stands at 4,543 meters above sea level while its lowest point is at 120 meters below sea level along the Danakil Depression. The coastline of Ethiopia consists mainly of wetlands along its eastern shoreline while its western shoreline consists mainly of forests and grasslands. There are several large rivers which run through the country including Baro River near Gambela and Omo River near Jimma while Lake Tana to the northwest is one of its largest lakes at over 3,600 square kilometers in size.
