Cyprus is an island country located in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. It is situated to the south of Turkey and to the east of Greece, and is known for its diverse landscape and cultural heritage. The island measures approximately 240 miles long and 100 miles wide, making it the third largest island in the Mediterranean. Cyprus has a temperate climate with temperatures ranging from 10-25 degrees Celsius throughout most of the year. It has a varied terrain, with rugged mountain ranges in its northern region, rolling hills in its central area and plains along its southern coast. The highest point on the island is Mount Olympus at 6402 feet above sea level. Cyprus also has numerous lakes and rivers throughout its interior, as well as several small islands off its coast. The island is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including olive trees, cypresses, wildflowers and falcons. To protect these natural resources Cyprus has established many national parks such as Akamas National Park which is home to some of Cyprus’ rarest species like Mediterranean monk seals. Additionally, much of Cyprus’ coastline consists of rocky coves which are important for local fishing communities as well as providing habitat for marine life such as loggerhead turtles.
