Brunei is a small sovereign state located on the northern coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by Malaysia and has a total area of 5,765 square kilometers. The country’s terrain is mostly flat coastal plain with hilly lowlands in the center and mountains in the east. The coastline of Brunei is 200 kilometers long and provides plenty of opportunities for fishing and other water activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, diving and sailing. The country also has several rivers including the Brunei River which flows through its capital city Bandar Seri Begawan. The climate of Brunei is tropical with warm temperatures year-round. Average temperatures range between 79°F (26°C) during winter months to 93°F (34°C) during summer months. Rainfall tends to be heaviest in the northern part of the country while the drier southern part receives less rain throughout the year. Brunei’s landscape consists mostly of tropical rainforest with a variety of plants and animals such as tigers, orangutans, elephants and rhinos. The country also contains several protected areas such as Ulu Temburong National Park which provides an ideal habitat for wildlife such as hornbills, gibbons and various species of monkeys.
