Belize is a small country located in Central America, bordered by Mexico and Guatemala. Its total land area is 8,867 square miles, making it the second smallest country in Central America after El Salvador. Belize has a diverse landscape with low-lying coastal plains and mountainous regions in the interior. The central part of the country is dominated by the Maya Mountains, which include three major peaks: Victoria Peak at 3,680 feet (1,122 meters), Doyle’s Delight at 3,688 feet (1,125 meters), and Raggedy Range at 3,734 feet (1,138 meters). These mountains are covered with lush green rainforests filled with wildlife. To the north of these mountains lie two major rivers: the Belize River and New River. These rivers are home to a variety of wildlife including crocodiles and manatees. The coastline of Belize is dotted with cays and lagoons that provide habitat for aquatic species such as sea turtles. The coastline also provides plenty of opportunities for fishing and other water activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, diving and sailing. The climate of Belize is tropical with warm temperatures year-round. The rainy season runs from May to November while December through April tends to be dryer.
