Belarus is a landlocked country located in Eastern Europe, bordered by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest. It has an area of 207,600 square kilometers and a population of over 9.5 million people. The capital city is Minsk which is also the country’s largest city with more than 2 million inhabitants. The geography of Belarus is characterized by its lowland terrain with numerous rivers and lakes in addition to forests covering much of the country. The highest peak in Belarus is Dzyarzhynskaya Hara at 345 meters above sea level which is located in the Vitsebsk region. Other notable mountains are Horyn and Homan. The climate in Belarus varies depending on elevation but generally has warm summers and cold winters with temperatures ranging from -10°C to 20°C throughout the year. Rainfall averages around 600mm per year with higher amounts falling during summer months while winter usually sees some rainfall across much of the country. Belarus also experiences extreme weather conditions such as blizzards during winter months while summer brings strong winds to parts of western regions of the country. Thunderstorms are common during spring months while floods can occur due to heavy rainfall or melting snow from higher elevations during spring or early summer months.
