Bangladesh is a South Asian country located in the Ganges-Brahmaputra delta region of Bengal. It has an area of 147,570 square kilometers and a population of over 163 million people. The capital city is Dhaka which is also the country’s largest city with more than 15 million inhabitants. The geography of Bangladesh is characterized by its vast floodplains and numerous rivers, streams and wetlands with many shallow lagoons between them. The highest peak in Bangladesh is Keokradong at 1,052 meters above sea level which is located in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region. Other notable mountains are Sangu, Hathazari and Madhupur Tracts. The climate in Bangladesh varies depending on elevation but generally has hot summers and mild winters with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 40°C throughout the year. Rainfall averages around 2,000mm per year with higher amounts falling during summer months while winter usually sees some rainfall across much of the country. Bangladesh also experiences extreme weather conditions such as cyclones during summer months while winter brings strong winds to parts of northern and eastern regions of the country. Thunderstorms are common during spring months while floods can occur due to heavy rainfall or melting snow from higher elevations during spring or early summer months.
