Bahrain is an archipelagic country located in the Persian Gulf off the coast of Saudi Arabia and Qatar. It has an area of 765 square kilometers and a population of over 1.5 million people. The capital city is Manama which is also the country’s largest city with more than 600,000 inhabitants. The geography of Bahrain is characterized by its numerous islands and cays with many shallow lagoons between them. The highest peak in Bahrain is Jabal ad Dukhan at 134 meters above sea level which is located on the largest island of Bahrain Island. Other notable islands include Hawar and Muharraq. The climate in Bahrain varies depending on elevation but generally has hot summers and mild winters with temperatures ranging from 10°C to 40°C throughout the year. Rainfall averages around 100mm per year with higher amounts falling during winter months while summer usually sees some rainfall across much of the country. Bahrain also experiences extreme weather conditions such as dust storms during summer months while winter brings strong winds to parts of northern and eastern regions of the country. Thunderstorms are common during spring months while floods can occur due to heavy rainfall or melting snow from higher elevations during spring or early summer months.
