Panama: Panama City

The capital of Panama bears the same name as the country. In German we usually say Panama City when talking about the capital. Panama City is located on the Pacific coast, a little east of the center of the country. 880,000 people live here, in the metropolitan area even 1.4 million. That’s a third of all residents.

Panama City has many high-rise buildings – including a large number of the tallest structures in Latin America . This makes the city look different from many other Central American capitals, which are rather low-built.
