Lithuania Flag

Lithuania is located in Northern Europe and is one of the three Baltic states. It is the southernmost of the three Baltic states. It borders the Baltic Sea to the west and shares borders with Latvia, Belarus, Poland and the Russian Kaliningrad Oblast.

In the course of the EU enlargement in 2004 Lithuania became a member state of the European Union and a member of NATO. As of January 1, 2015, Lithuania became the 19th member of the euro area.

Vilnius is the capital of Lithuania. In German you sometimes read Wilna for her name. Vilnius is located in the southeast of the country on the Neris River. With 526,000 inhabitants, it is also the largest city in Lithuania. The old town has been declared a World Heritage Site.
