Georgia (Georgian Sakartwelo, also called Georgia after the Russian name Грузия) is a state in western Asia. It is located in Transcaucasia, east of the Black Sea and south of the Greater Caucasus. It is bordered by Russia to the north, Turkey and Armenia to the south, and Azerbaijan to the east. The country lies at the interface of Eurasia, has a diverse geography and an eventful history.

Georgia: Tbilisi

The capital of Georgia is Tbilisi. In Georgian it is called Tbilisi. 1.1 million people live in Tbilisi and thus around a quarter of the country’s population. Tbilisi is also the largest city in the country. It is located in the southeast of the country on the Kura River and surrounded by mountains. The residential quarters also extend in terraces on the slopes.
