The Republic of Chad is a landlocked country in Central Africa. Chad stretches from the dry Sahara desert in the north over the climatic and vegetation zones of the Sahel and Sudan to the area of dry forests in the extreme south. In the south of the country there is an almost tropical, humid climate, while in the north there is a desert climate with large daily temperature differences and extremely rare rainfall.

Due to internal conflicts and prolonged periods of drought, Chad is one of the poorest countries in the world.
