Bulgaria Flag

Bulgaria is a republic in southeastern Europe. From 1396 to 1878 Bulgaria was under Turkish rule. From 1908 it was a kingdom, from 1947 to 1989 a communist people’s republic. Bulgaria has been independent of the Soviet system since 1989 and is moving closer to the West. However, economic and social reforms are making slow progress.

Tourism is an important economic indicator. Since the end of the nineties, especially mass tourism on the Black Sea coast has developed very strongly.

Bulgaria is a member of the EU and NATO.
