Bosnia and Herzegovina Flag

Bosnia and Herzegovina, a state in southeastern Europe, emerged from the former Yugoslavia, but today has the borders again that were allocated to the country at the Berlin Congress in 1878. The economy was quite destroyed after the Bosnian War (1992-1995) and recovered only very slowly with massive international aid. Export demand and investment activity are considered to be important drivers. The large and inefficient public sector, bureaucratic obstacles for entrepreneurs and the fragmented labor market, which reflects the ethnic division of the country, are seen as problematic for economic development. Nonetheless, annual economic growth of over 3% is expected over the next few years.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: Sarajevo

The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina is called Sarajevo. Does the name sound familiar to you? That is quite possible, because the city became world famous through several events. For example, there was the assassination attempt in Sarajevo in 1914, which led to the outbreak of the First World War. The capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina has also hosted the Winter Olympics once before, that was in 1984. Last but not least, the city has also repeatedly been the scene of conflicts and disputes in the Balkans. Sarajevo is located in the east of the country and around half a million people live in the city.
